今日はビーチ・ボーイズでスループ・ジョン・Bです。

伝承曲です。元はバハマ諸島に伝わる民謡ですが、1958年にキングストン・トリオがカバーして、そこからブラインド・ブレイク、ジョニー・キャッシュ、トーケンズやジミー・ロジャースもカバーしました。

ビーチ・ボーイズのバージョンは1966年3月にまずシングルで発売し、ビルボードホット100で3位を記録しました。そのあと名作『ペット・サウンズ』に収録されました。
