今日はブルース・スプリングスティーンでダンシング・イン・ザ・ダークです。

ブルース・スプリングスティーン作曲です。1984年のアルバム『ボーン・イン・ザ・USA』収録曲でもあり、そのアルバムから最初にシングルカットされた歌で、ホット100で2位を記録しました。

アルバムのレコーディングに2年費やし、やっと十数曲から最終的にアルバムに収録されるものを選ぶ段階で作られた歌だそうです。

親友でもありプロデューサーでもあるジョン・ランドーが、「これがブルースだ、といえる会心のヒット曲が必要だ」とブルースに話していましたが、当のブルースは「俺はもうたくさん書いた、そんなにヒット曲が必要なら自分で書け」と意見が衝突しました。

夜中に仕事を終えて泊まったホテルの部屋で、簡単なリフをアコギで弾いていると、突然歌詞が思い浮かび、今回の曲が完成したといいます。

ティナ・ターナーやシャドウズがカバーしています。
