ブルース・スプリングスティーン作曲です。1978年のシングルで、ホット100で42位を記録しました。また同年発売のアルバム『闇に吼える街』収録曲です。

Badlandsは荒地、という意味ですが、この歌は、そんな惨めな場所からいつか抜け出してやる、という意思を表明している歌です。
