今日はエセル・ウォーターズでジーパース・クリーパーズです。

ハリー・ウォーレン、ジョニー・マーサー作曲です。1938年(!)のシングル「ゼイ・セイ」B面曲です。

「Jeepers creepers」は驚いた様子を表す言葉です。似たような言葉で「Oh my goodness」「Jesus Christ」があります。後者の言葉をそのまま使う事が出来ない時もある為、一説には後者の言葉を文字って出来た言葉、と言われています。

あなたのその瞳が私の心を揺さぶるのよ、と翻弄されている歌です。
