今朝も満員電車の中通勤しました。後ろから人波に押されて、私の体がポールにずっと当たったまんまでしたが、何と、私の出ている腹がクッションになったんです。

その瞬間、「この腹はこういう時に役に立つんだな」と思いました。そのおかげ…でもなく、満員電車ではやはりきついポーズのまんま過ごさざるを得なかったです。

今日の洋楽

今日はザ・トレメローズで谷間に三つの鐘が鳴るという歌です。

ジャン・ヴィラード・ギレス、バート・レイスフィールド作曲です。ザ・ブラウンズというボーカルグループのバージョンが有名です。

元はフランス語で書かれていましたが、後にバート・レイスフィールドが英語に直して、1948年にメロディー・メイズというグループが最初に発表しました。

ザ・ブラウンズのバージョンは1959年に大ヒットしました。ビルボードホット100も1位を獲得しています。因みにブラウンズは男声1人、女声2人のグループですが、そのうちの男声のジム・エド・ブラウンという人の名前が、「谷間に三つの鐘が鳴る」の主人公の名前と偶然にも同じなんです。

トレメローズのバージョンは1965年にシングルで発表されました。ブラウンズのバージョンと違うのは、新たに歌詞が追加された事です。「So his parents~」、「Many friends were~」、「Silent people gathered~」の部分が追加された歌詞です。
