Freddie and The Dreamers - The viper

早速、洋楽和訳のコーナーです。

今日の洋楽

今日はフレディとドリーマーズでザ・ヴァイパーです。

ティム・ゲイル作曲です。1963年のEP『If you gotta make a fool of somebody』収録曲です。

EPとは、Extended Playの略ですが、昔のレコードの形態の一つで、大体片面に2曲ないし3曲が収録されており、それが両面にあります。シングル盤より曲が多いです。

今年か去年にフレディとドリーマーズのCDを買いました。ファーストアルバムの再発盤ですが、ボーナストラックがファーストアルバムの曲数よりも多い、というやつでした。そのCDで初めて知りました。

では和訳です。

From TV’s inspector Vay Grey

He said “Beware, take care of the viper”

ある日電話がかかって来た、

テレビに出てた監視官のヴェイ・グレイって人から。

そしてこう言った「毒ヘビに気をつけろ」。

Though we had a headlong start

We were warned by Mr. Lockheart who said

“Beware, take care, chaps, of the viper”

何も考えずに走り出して、

ロックハートさんから注意をされた、

「毒ヘビに気をつけろ、若いの」。

We didn’t pay much attention till then

So we go a call from the Z car men he said

“Beware, take care whack of the viper”

そこまで気をつけてなかった。

Zカーの人からも電話を受けた。

「毒ヘビに気をつけろ。」

Then called a man who looked so weird

He had a long fangs and a purple knotted beard

His face was black and his teeth were red

And when he opened his mouth, this is what he said

奇妙な男からも呼ばれた。

長い牙に紫の結ばれたヒゲを蓄えていた。

顔は黒く、牙は赤かった。

口を開けて、彼はこう言った。

“I am the viper, I am the viper, beware of the viper

I am the viper, the window viper

So where are all the windows to vipe”

「俺は毒ヘビだ、毒ヘビに気をつけろ。

俺は窓を拭く毒ヘビだ。

拭いてほしい窓はどこにある?」

He vipes by day and he vipes by night

A vipers job is alright

He viper so well that it has been said

“Who is this man with the monstrous head”

朝窓を拭き、夜に窓を拭く。

窓拭きの仕事は順調さ。

綺麗に拭くんだ、そしてみんながこう言う。

「あのバケモノの頭をした男は誰だ?」

He is the viper, the window viper

He comes to cash all the windows

He is the viper, the window viper

So where are all the windows to wash

彼は毒ヘビさ、窓を拭く毒ヘビさ。

窓を全部拭いてくれるんだ。

彼は毒ヘビさ、窓を拭く毒ヘビさ。

拭いてほしい窓はどこにあるんだい?

窓を拭く意外と真面目な毒ヘビの歌でした。
