今日の洋楽

今日はロイ・オービソンでペニー・アーケードです。

サミー・キング作曲です。1969年のシングルで、オーストラリアで1位を記録しました。また翌1970年のアルバム『ザ・ビッグ・O』収録曲です。

ペニー・アーケードは、いわゆるゲームセンターの事をさします。今ゲーセンにあるようなデジタルなゲームではなく、ピンボールやバガテル(手製ピンボール)、ミュートスコープ(円形の芯からパラパラマンガ的なアニメーションを見る装置)といったゲームが揃っている所です。

日本でいえば今は数少ないスマートボール(私も2回ほど遊びました)なんかがそれに当たるのでは無いかと思います。

ディズニーのドナルドダックが出てる「ドナルドのゲームは楽し(A good time for a dime)」を見れば大体分かります。

立ち寄ったゲームセンターでの出来事を歌った歌です。

夜、前の方で光が見えた。

光の滝が見れますよ。」

At first I thought it a dream that I was in.

Lost , lost in a sea of glass and tin.

But no, so dipping my hand in the back of my jeans,

I grabbed a handful of coins to feed the machines.

最初、これは夢だと思ってたんだ、

ガラスと鉛の海に溺れてた感覚だった。

でも違った、だからジーンズのポケットに手を入れて、
