今日の洋楽
第2回目は、マーティ・ロビンズでエル・パソです。
マーティ・ロビンズ作曲です。1959年のシングルでホット100とカントリーチャートで1位を記録しています。また、同年発売のアルバム『Gunfighter ballad and trail songs』収録です。
人殺しの歌というと残虐なイメージがありますが、この歌は人殺しというよりは、西部劇のイメージが強いです。アルバムにガンファイトと名前が乗っていますからね。
この歌は4分半と、当時のシングル盤の曲の長さにしては長い方でした。今でこそ、4分5分のポピュラーソングはたくさん出回っていますが。マーティ・ロビンズの所属していたレコード会社は、この長さの歌をリリースするのに抵抗がありました。
その心配をよそに、この歌は大ヒットしたんですから、凄いですよね。

何かとてつもない異変を体に感じた。
